Aaron Mitchell

Firm Founder and Managing Attorney

Aaron Mitchell is the Founder and Managing Attorney of Mitchell Law Offices, LLC, a criminal defense firm based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, built from the ground up with a clear standard: perform at a high level and deliver results. What began as a solo practice has, in just over five years, been tested, refined, and proven, growing into a respected and results-driven firm across New Mexico. Aaron did not inherit a platform. He built it himself and validated it through results.

A Montana native, Aaron earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Criminology and a Professional Certificate in Forensic Sciences from the University of Montana. He then earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Idaho College of Law, where he further developed his litigation foundation through an externship with the General Crimes Division at the Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Albuquerque. After passing the New Mexico Bar, Aaron joined the office as a prosecutor, handling cases involving DWI, domestic violence, felony offenses, and other serious charges. That experience provided a practical understanding of how cases are built, negotiated, and tried, which he now applies to strategically defend clients across New Mexico.

In 2021, Aaron founded Mitchell Law Offices, LLC with a clear objective: to build a law firm that does not compromise on preparation, strategy, or client service. Since then, the firm has grown into a trusted name in criminal defense across Albuquerque and throughout New Mexico, known for disciplined execution, strong advocacy, and responsiveness. The firm’s reputation, reflected in numerous five-star reviews, is supported by its results, including case dismissals, reduced charges, favorable plea negotiations, and outcomes that have preserved clients’ records, licenses, and futures.

Since founding the firm, Aaron has continued to hold a Special Prosecution Contract with the State of New Mexico, reflecting his skill, judgment, ethics, and legal acumen while reinforcing credibility that directly benefits his clients. His philosophy is straightforward: the best defense attorney is a damn good prosecutor, and vice versa. That perspective is grounded in experience. Understanding how cases are built, where weaknesses exist, how decisions are made, and what drives outcomes allows him to anticipate strategy, challenge assumptions, and position his clients ahead of the opposition.

Aaron has built a reputation for aggressively challenging the State at every stage of prosecution in New Mexico criminal defense cases. He secured a landmark not guilty verdict in a widely reported case under New Mexico’s newly enacted firearms law, becoming the first attorney to defeat a charge under that statute. His work includes not guilty verdicts in jury trials and the strategic reduction or dismissal of serious felony charges before trial. In one case, he reduced seventeen first-degree felonies to five third-degree felonies, significantly altering the trajectory and exposure of the case. In another, he shut down a homicide prosecution early by exposing fundamental weaknesses in the State’s evidence. He has also defeated vehicular homicide allegations at preliminary hearing and secured outcomes that avoid lengthy prison sentences.

Today, Aaron continues to drive the firm’s growth and expansion while remaining hands-on in every criminal defense case. Now joined by his younger brother, Attorney Trey Mitchell, the firm enters its next phase of growth, with Trey as the first attorney to step into that role effectively.

With Mitchell Law Offices, LLC, as their firm of choice, clients can expect disciplined strategy, direct involvement, and a relentless focus on results at every stage of their case.

Trey Mitchell

Associate Trial Attorney

Trey Mitchell was born and raised in Kalispell, Montana, where discipline, accountability, and performance were the standard. Growing up alongside his older brother, Aaron, he was exposed early to a mindset built on preparation, loyalty, and results. Over time, Trey developed that foundation into his own approach, defined by independence, precision, and execution.

Trey graduated with honors from the University of Montana with a bachelor’s degree in Criminology and earned his Juris Doctor with honors from the University of New Mexico School of Law, graduating in the winter of 2025. He passed the bar examination with top-percentage performance, reinforcing his discipline in preparation and his ability to perform under pressure. Trey now practices with Mitchell Law Offices in Albuquerque, where he represents clients in criminal defense matters across New Mexico, contributes to case strategy, and supports the firm’s continued growth and success.

At Mitchell Law Offices, Trey has taken on meaningful responsibility early in his career and earned his role as the first attorney to step into the firm’s next phase of growth through consistent performance and work ethic. He brings preparation, clarity, and sound judgment to each stage of a case, particularly in criminal defense matters where timing, precision, and decision-making are critical. He is well-suited for high-demand environments, where disciplined preparation and attention to detail support effective advocacy.

Practicing alongside his brother, Trey strengthens a foundation built on trust, loyalty, and shared accountability. That family-driven dynamic is operational, creating alignment and decisiveness that directly benefit clients. The same instinct that defines how they operate as brothers, protecting, backing, and holding one another to a high standard, extends to every client the firm represents. Clients are not treated as case files. They are represented with the same level of commitment and loyalty that defines how the firm stands behind its own.

As his practice continues to develop, Trey is expected to expand his focus into civil matters, including personal injury, car accident, and probate matters across New Mexico. This transition will reflect the same principles that guide his criminal defense work, including strategy, timing, preparation, and disciplined execution. Whether defending a client against criminal charges or assisting clients in civil matters, Trey is driven to support outcomes that materially improve his clients’ position and, when it matters most, change the direction of their lives.

Amina Sassila

Litigation Paralegal

Amina Sassila is the Litigation Paralegal at Mitchell Law Offices, where she works closely with the firm’s attorneys in developing criminal and civil cases from the early stages of litigation through hearings and trial. She reviews discovery, police reports, video, photographs, witness statements, court filings, records, and other evidence to understand the facts, identify inconsistencies or missing information, and determine what requires further investigation. Amina works closely with the firm’s investigators to coordinate investigative work, witness interviews and follow-up, and to review and incorporate information developed through investigation. Her litigation work also includes legal and factual research, motions and pleadings, subpoenas, factual timelines, evidence summaries, exhibits, and hearing preparation. As cases move toward trial, she works with the attorneys to organize and prepare the evidence, witnesses, exhibits, investigative materials, and factual record needed for trial.

Amina’s role is part of a broader team approach at Mitchell Law Offices. Our attorneys, Litigation Paralegal, Certified Legal Assistant, and investigators work together throughout the life of a case, with each handling a different part of its development and preparation. That collaboration helps ensure important issues are identified early, outstanding evidence and investigative work are followed through, and our attorneys have the information they need to evaluate the case, make strategic decisions, and prepare for court.

Amina studied Political Science and Sociology at the University of New Mexico, with a minor in Arabic Language Studies, earning a 3.89 GPA and multiple academic honors, including a Certificate of Honors Studies and Honors Distinction in International Studies. She was also a member of Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Sociology Honor Society, and served as President of UNM’s Arabic Club. Amina also holds an Associate of Applied Science in Engineering Technologies from Santa Fe Community College, where she was named to the Dean’s List.\n\nBefore joining Mitchell Law Offices, Amina worked with complex and sensitive information in research, regulatory, and technical settings. At UNM’s Geospatial and Population Studies program, she reviewed and analyzed police reports for accuracy and completeness while handling confidential and legally sensitive information. Her later experience included reviewing and processing more than 700 legal and regulatory documents, managing confidential records, and reviewing complex technical materials. That background carries directly into her work at Mitchell Law Offices, where careful evidence review, attention to detail, and recognizing when something is missing or does not line up are important parts of her role.
